"I've been a lawyer, a performer, a non-profit builder, a volunteer, and a sports parent cheering on the sidelines in the rain and the cold. Each of those things taught me something about this City and the people in it. I'm running because I think that experience matters — and because Northcrest deserves someone who is genuinely, personally invested in getting this right. I truly believe that together, we can build something here worth being proud of." - Gavin Muir

Why I’m Running

Northcrest has been my home for over 30 years — and this community is personal to me in every sense. My wife and I are raising four boys here. I've volunteered here, performed here, built things here, and cheered my kids at rugby games across this city in every kind of weather. This ward isn't a stepping stone. It's home.

I bring an unusually wide range of experience to this race. A 12-year career as a litigation lawyer sharpened my ability to cut through complexity, build compelling arguments, and fight tenaciously for the people I represented. But it's what came after that defines me just as much. I walked away from a successful legal practice to build something new — and then built it twice. Today I run two independent businesses: a commercial voice acting career and a private music teaching practice. I know firsthand what it takes to identify an opportunity, make smart decisions with limited resources, and deliver results when there's no safety net underneath you.

Earlier in my career, I worked in community economic development through a local non-profit, helping research and launch businesses aimed at creating sustainable opportunities for youth and those at risk. That work gave me something no courtroom could: a ground-level understanding of how communities actually function, where systems fall short, and how creative thinking — not just more spending — is what changes outcomes.

My connection to Peterborough runs deep beyond my professional life. I've performed in numerous productions with the Peterborough Theatre Guild, served as Musical Director for a youth production of The Little Mermaid, and sung with both the Peterborough Singers and the Peterborough Pop Ensemble — the City's official Musical Ambassadors — including a term as President of the Pop Ensemble, with which I continue to perform today.

I'm running because Northcrest is at a turning point — growing fast, facing real challenges, and deserving of leadership that brings fresh thinking, genuine accountability, and the tenacity to see things through. I've spent my life building exactly that kind of skill set, across an unusually broad range of arenas. Now I want to put it to work.
